Rae Bareli: BJP General Secretary Vinay Katiyar today (Apr 20, 2006) filed his nomination papers for the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha by election today.

Party Vice-President Kalyan Singh, General Secretary Pramod Mahajan, state party President Kesri Nath Tripathi and Leader of Opposition in the UP Assembly Lalji Tandon were present on the occasion.

Later in an informal chat with reporters, Katiyar denied reports that he had been made a scapegoat by his party by fielding him against Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

He claimed that he would give a tough fight to Gandhi.

"I have been directed to contest elections from here and I will do it with all my might," Katiyar said.
