A Special Police officer was killed and four others injured today (Apr 21, 2006)when Lashker-e-Toiba militants hurled grenades and showered bullets on a police station in Bhaderwah ahead of April 24 by-polls in which Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is a candidate.
At least two LeT militants hurled grenades and showered bullets from automatic rifles at a police station in the heart of Bhaderwah town at around 6 pm killing an SPO and injuring four others but were arrested within hours of the incident, Inspector General of police, Jammu zone, Sheeshu Pal Vaid said.
He said this was the first major terrorist attack in Bhaderwah since the election campaign took off in the constituency, also known as mini Kashmir because of its immense beauty.
The injured were hospitalised.
Vaid said within hours of attack, police arrested both the LeT militants from a house, who confessed that they were given the responsibility by LeT District Commander Abu Tallah to attack police station and trigger panic among the residents.
Meanwhile, another blast was heard near the residence of Azad's cousin Javed Azad in Qila Mohalla area of Bhaderwah town late last evening, when militants fired a UBGL grnade on the house, he said adding no one was injured in the attack.
