L K Advani for efforts to isolate Nepal Maoists Saturday, April 22 2006 14:17 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh):
Asking for efforts to 'completely isolate Maoists in Nepal', BJP today (Apr 22, 2006)
said India's role in the Himalayan Kingdom should eventually help in tackling internal security challenges being posed by Naxlites.
"There are positive signals coming from Nepal in the wake of announcement by King Gyanendra that executive power will be restored to political parties. In the context of India'spolicy on Nepal, I urge the government to ensure that Maoistsin that country are completely isolated," senior BJP leader L K Advani told reporters in this naxalite-affected Chhattisgarh town on the 13th day of his Bharat Suraksha Yatra.
Asked about his party's stand on the rapidly changing developments in Nepal, the Leader of the Opposition said, "Our consistent stand has been that both constitutional monarchyand democracy are essential for ensuring stability there."
"We should do nothing that helps in strengthening Maoists in that country. It is an open secret that Nepal Maoists have links with their counterparts here and have ambitious plans to set up Red Corridor running through Nepal and India," he said.
He advised the Centre to tread cautiously on Nepal developments, keeping in view the need for effectively tackling naxalite menace within the country.
