Five killed, army chief critical in Sri Lanka blast

Colombo: At least five bodyguards were killed and Sri Lanka's army chief Sarath Fonseka was critically wounded in a powerful bomb attack here today (Apr 25, 2006),police said.

The five guards who escorted the army chief were killed in what was believed to be a suicide bombing inside the sprawling high-security military complex, police said.

Dozens of ambulances were rushed to the military compound to evacuate the wounded.
