Pramod Mahajan's condition continues to be critical
Wednesday, April 26 2006 10:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: The condition of BJP leader Pramod Mahajan continues to be critical and he was on 24-hourdialysis, hospital sources said today (Apr 26, 2006).

There was no change in Mahajan's condition in the past 45 hours; he was on life-support system and the condition was being monitored continuously, sources at the Hinduja Hospital, where the BJP General Secretary was admitted after being shot at and critically injured by his brother Pravin on Saturday, said.

Three bullets continue to be lodged in his body and doctors have said there would be no surgical intervention until his condition stabilises.

Police have questioned Mahajan's domestic servant on what had transpired between the two brothers on the day of the incident. He told police that he and other family members were inside the house and were not aware of the conversation between Pramod and Pravin.

Police have also recovered a diary from the Thane residence of Pravin which contains names and addresses of close relatives and associates, from which police hope to get some clue.

Police have not yet recorded the statement of Rekha, wife of Pramod Mahajan, who was present in the house at the time of the incident.

The blood-stained clothes of Mahajan have been sent to forensic laboratory for testing. The bullets seized by police and .32 bore pistol allegedly used in the shooting have also been sent to Kalina Laboratory here for ballistic analysis and the reports are expected within two weeks, police said.

BJP workers continued to offer prayers at several places for speedy recovery of Mahajan.
