Medical students protest on reservation of seats

New Delhi: Several medical students, protesting the Centre's proposed move to reserve seats for backward classes in central educational institutions, were today (Apr 26, 2006) prevented from demonstrating outside HRD Minister Arjun Singh's residence here.

The protestors, who were removed by the police from Singh's 17 Akbar Road residence, later demonstrated at Jantar Mantar, raising slogans against the Minister.

The security outside Singh's residence has been tightened and movement of vehicles in the area restricted, police sources said.

The protestors included students from premier medical colleges including the All India Institute of MedicalSciences, Lady Hardinge Medical College and Maulana Azad Medical College.
