Patna:
Controversial RJD Lok Sabha MP Mohd Shahabuddin, currently lodged in Bhagalpur central prison, will be shifted to the Siwan jail by May 5 to ensure speedy trial of the pending cases against him.
Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) Abhayanand told sources that the MP from Siwan was being transferred following a recent directive of the Patna High
Court to speed up the trial of cases against him.
Shahabuddin, who has over two dozen criminal cases against him, is lodged in Bhagalpur jail ever since his arrest from Delhi in November last year.
Abhayanand said the police had completed investigation and submitted charge sheets in most of the cases against Shahabuddin.
The court had asked the state government to ensure speedy trial of cases against the MP, particularly in connection with alleged seizure of unaccounted foreign currencies, illegal
firearms, ammunition with Pakistan ordnance factory markings, stolen vehicles and a deer from his Pratappur house during a raid on April 24 last year.
