Jayalalithaa has not replied to any letters: FM
Tuesday, May 2 2006 11:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Coimbatore: Charging the AIADMK Government in Tamil Nadu with adopting a confrontationist attitude with the Centre, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram yesterday (May 1, 2006) said Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had not responded to various letterswritten by him on developmental matters.

Jayalalithaa was the only chief minister in the country who had not bothered to reply to the letters, Chidambaram alleged at an election rally here.

Giving details of the letters written to Chief Ministers of all the states from May 2005 to April 7, 2006, from VAT to Viability Gap Funding, he said except Jayalalithaa, all other chief ministers had replied to the letters.

"Though he did not want to challenge Jayalalithaa on any issue, he had 'invited' her to come to a common platform so that doubts could be cleared, Chidambaram said. But there was no response from her for the last five days," he said.

The 13 Central ministers from the state could claim that they were instrumental in sanctioning the Sethusamudram project, desalination plant, highways, rail lines, Cenvat abolition and classic language status to Tamil during the last two years of the UPA government," he said.

"But if we ask what Jayalalithaa has done for the last five years, what will she show. Has she set up any special economic zone, has she developed or renovated any ports as was being done by various states?" he asked.

Chidambaram appealed to the people to elect a Government, which would cooperate with the Centre, resulting in all round development of Tamil Nadu and not a government with a confrontationist attitude.
