Terrorist violence aimed at dividing people: Patil Tuesday, May 2 2006 17:47 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Jammu:
The massacre of innocent people in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday and terrorist violence elsewhere are intended to scuttle peace and create divisions among various communities, designs which the government would not allow to succeed, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said today (May 2, 2006).
"Some forces in Jammu and Kashmir, Varanasi or Delhi are trying to divide the people by such acts of brutality," Patil, who was in the state to make an assessment of the
situation in the wake of killing of 32 Hindus by militants, said adding, however, all reasonable people understand the motives and have not fallen prey to their designs.
"We will fight these barbaric acts whether they take place in Jammu and Kashmir or anywhere in India. We will see that these do not happen," Patil, who alongwith Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Union Home Secretary V K Duggal visited
Basantgarh area of Udhampur district and Government Medical College Hospital here, told reporters.
In reply to a question, Patil said the objective of some of these elements is to see that there is no peace and tranquility between different religious communities or areas
and it appears that they want to scuttle the peace.
"The designs can be understood by us. It is not beyond our comprehension. But we have to prepare plans to counter their designs," he said.
