New Delhi: BJP leader Pramod Mahajan is dead, party General Secretary Vijay Kumar Malhotra announced here today (May 3, 2006).

The party flag was lowered at half-mast at its headquarters here as a mark of respect to the departed leader.

Garlands were also placed on his picture.
