Uma Bharti quits MLA seat she won as BJP nominee
Wednesday, May 3 2006 17:04 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti today (May 3, 2006) quit the Assembly seat she had won as a BJP candidate in the last elections following her floating a new party on Sunday.

Bharti, who represented Bada Malehra in the state Assembly, was declared an unattached member in the house following her expulsion from the BJP in December last year.

"She has sent her resignation as MLA to the state Assembly Speaker," her aide Sanjay Mishra told sources.

Mishra said she quit her Assembly seat on 'moral grounds' in the wake of the firebrand leader launching her own Bharatiya Janshakti Party on April 30.

Bharti was expelled from the BJP in December last year on charges of anti-party activities.
