Arjun Singh meets EC over the reservation issue
Thursday, May 4 2006 17:39 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: HRD Minister Arjun Singh, who is in the thick of a controversy over moves for reservation of seats for backward classes in elite educational institutions, today (May 4, 2006) met the Election Commission.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of the Commission's observation that his earlier statements on the reservation issue amounted to violation of model code of conduct enforced in five states where assembly polls are being held.

The Commission had written to him seeking his reply. When he wrote back saying he had not violated the code, the commission sent a letter to the Cabinet Secretary seeking more details.
