Chennai: EC appoints 9 special observers for polls

Chennai: The Election Commission has appointed nine special observers for the May 8 elections in Tamil Nadu.

They would serve as an interface between electoral machinery, candidates, political parties and voters, Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta said in a press release today.

The Special observers would be in charge of separate regions, the release said.

The special observers were S K Srivatsava (Tiruchi), Dr Amitabj Rajan (Chennai), Pritam Chand Kapoor (Madurai), Dr Sutirtha Bhattacharya (Cuddalore), Amarjit Singh Lamba (Tirunelveli), Amitava Bhattacharya (Coimbatore), V B Pyre Lal (Nagapattinam), Dr Satbir Silas Bedi (Salem) and Dinesh Singh (Ramanathapuram).
