Curfew was today (May 4, 2006) relaxed for two hours for women and children in three areas of the city where violence has left six persons dead.
The curfew was relaxed for women and children at noon for two hours in Panigate, Karlibaug and Raopura areas of the city. In Vadi, covering about 50 police station areas, and Navapura, the curfew will be relaxed for women and children between 2.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m., Police Commissioner Deepak Swarup said.
"The army will conduct a flag march for the second consecutive day today between five and seven in the evening in the disturbed areas of the city," he added.
Swarup said at a peace meeting, attending by the Municipal Commissioner, City Mayor, representatives of both the communities and himself yesterday, it was decided that no
religious structure would be demolished in future without consultations with members of the concerned community.
He said the police was working in a neutral manner butaction had to be taken against those indulging in violence.
The city has been witnessing violence since Monday following demolition of a dargah.
