DMK President M Karunanidhi today (May 8, 2006)said that his party would get a majoirty of its own in the Tamil Nadu assembly polls and there would not be any need for a coalition government.
After casting his vote along with his family members in a booth in Thousand Lights constituency, he told reporters that "As per the present indications, the DMK will form a
government of its own and there is no need for a coalition government in the state".
He said he expected the DMK-led DPA to win in at least 200 constituencies in the 234 member assembly.
Asked how he felt the present polls, he said "The DMK had fought against the mighty combination of late Kamaraj and late Rajagopalachari in 1971. In that the elections, DMK won ans unprecedented number of 184 seats. Comparing that, the current
elections is nothing".
Asked if new faces would be inducted in his cabinet if he was voted to power, he said "Even in the selection of candidates, we have chosen young and new faces".
