Nepal asks donors to assist in nation's development Monday, May 8 2006 12:13 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kathmandu:
Admitting that it is saddled with debt, Nepal's new interim government has urged donor communities to provide assistance to the Himalayan Kingdom.
Finance Minister Ramsharan Mahat said donor communities should provide assistance to insurgency-hit Nepal in a coordinated manner keeping in view the complex situation facing the country and the needs of the Nepalese people.
"Instead of putting their own conditions, donor agencies should look at the need of the Nepalese people", he said while speaking at the 5th general convention of NGO Federations of Nepal here yesterday (May 7,2006).
Pointing out the government was under huge debt and the development targets were challenging, Mahat requested the donor community to assist Nepal with an open heart to help attain development goals.
