BJP likely to disrupt House proceedings tomorrow Wednesday, May 10 2006 16:48 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The Opposition BJP, which is demanding amnesty for encroachments in the national capital to end the ongoing sealing and demolition drive, is expected to force an adjournment in both Houses of Parliament tomorrow to coincide with the Delhi bandh called by city traders.
"Both the Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister are making statements even as dozens of bulldozers are running amock demolishing encroachments and jhuggi-jhompris and sealing shops. Any Bill seeking to stay such actions for ayear or so would be illegal and would be struck down by the courts", BJP Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha V K Malhotra told reporters here.
He said all extensions made by citizens on their own property should be regularised under an amnesty scheme.
"If the Government can think of an amnesty scheme for black money, why not for the people of Delhi?" he asked.
Malhotra, who is the party's lone Lok Sabha member from Delhi and national Incharge of its city unit, said the issue would be raised vociferously in both Houses of Parliament
tomorrow.
Meanwhile, BJP sources said the party was unlikely to allow smooth transaction of business in both Houses and may force an adjournment on the issue. The party has already moved notices for discussion on the issue.
The city unit of the party has also supported the Bandh call for tomorrow given by some traders' organisations.
