NAC chairpersonship is not among exempted posts
Wednesday, May 10 2006 15:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The National Advisory Council (NAC) chairpersonship is not among the exempted posts in the amended Bill being brought by the government to end the office of profit issue.

It is not in the exempted category so far, Government sources said adding it was a conscious decision not to keep the post in the exempted category with a view to avoid any opposition criticism in the matter.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi had been the NAC chairperson, a post from which she resigned on March 23 alongwith her Lok Sabha seat in the wake of the office of profit controversy.

The sources said right now the thinking is that no MP should head the NAC.
