Thursday, May 11 2006 11:09 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu and Left coalitions in Kerala and West Bengal were ahead while the Congress and AGP were running neck and neck in initial trends in Assam as counting of votes began today (May 11, 2006) in elections to assemblies of four states and Pondicherry.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi is leading in the prestigious Rae Bareli Lok Sabha bye-election in Uttar Pradesh, from where is seeking re-election.

Early trends from Tamil Nadu showed the alliance led by the opposition DMK was leading in 60 of the 234 seats in the assembly, while the ruling AIADMK-led grouping was ahead in 31 seats.
