Patil meets Khaleda Zia to discuss a range of issues

Dhaka: A range of issues, including economic cooperation, cultural exchanges and curbing terrorism, came up for discussion during talks between Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia here.

During his talks with Zia yesterday, Patil, who is in the Bangladeshi capital to attend the SAARC Home Minister's meeting, said the Bangladesh premier's recent visit to India was very useful for both the countries in helping boost cooperation in all areas of mutual benefit.

Both sides opined that if the two countries come up and work with positive attitudes,

"The cooperation will be increased and no problem can exist, no problem can arise," private UNB news agency said.

Enhancing trade and commerce, cultural exchange, cooperation in curbing terrorism in the SAARC countries also came up for discussion.

During talks with State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar, Patil discussed bilateral issues, including border problems.

"We had fruitful discussion on various issues," Patil told reporters after nearly an hour-long meeting.

Patil said, "We can resolve the existing problems through discussion."

Asked about India's frequent allegation of insurgent camps in Bangladesh, his counterpart Babor said that Bangladesh "Never allows its territory to be used by any terrorists or insurgents against any country."
