It is a reflection of the people's faith: Basu Thursday, May 11 2006 12:48 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kolkata:
Veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu today (May 11, 2006) hailed the ruling Left ront's 'march to power' in West Bengal for the seventh successive term as 'unprecedented in parliamentary history'.
"It was a reflection of people's faith in our policies and we hope that the opposition will co-operate with the government in its good work and play a responsible role,"
92-year-old Basu told sources.
"Before the election, it was my wish to see the 7th Left Front government in my lifetime. It is good to know that my dream is going to be fulfilled," he said.
"Our target was to secure more than 50 per cent votes in West Bengal this time and our performance has been highly impressive", Basu, a former chief minister said.
Basu said that he was happy to learn about the Left Democratic Front's success in Kerala, where it was poised to wrest power from the Congress-led alliance.
He also said that the CPI(M) here would make overtures to those who had not voted for the LF to win them over.
