BJP demands discussion on recent massacre in JK

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon today (May 15, 2006) after a determined BJP sought suspension of the Question Hour to take up a discussion on the recent massacre of people in Doda and Udhampur districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Raising the issue amidst protest from treasury benches, Leader of the Opposition Jaswant Singh said the situation had not been handled well by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil.

Congress membes said the matter could be discussed after the Question Hour.

Slogan-shouting BJP members even threatened to enter the well of the House.

Sensing the mood, Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat adjourned the House till noon, 25 minutes after it assembled for the day.
