CPI(M) attacks BJP for raking up 'communal' issues Monday, May 15 2006 17:11 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
CPI(M) today(May 15,2006) attacked the BJP for trying to scuttle debate in Lok Sabha on the recent violence in Gujarat and raking up 'communal issues.
"BJP raised the recent killing of 32 people in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir through an adjournment motion. While we have already condemned the incident in the strongest possible terms, BJP's intention was to scuttle the scheduled debate on Gujarat communal violence by raising this issue belatedly. They did not feel the necessity of raising it on the first day of this session itself," party leaders Basudeb Acharia and Rupchand Pal told reporters here.
A calling attention motion by the Left leaders on communal violence in Gujarat and other parts of the country was listed in today's list of business in Lok Sabha.
Referring to the debate on the Doda massacre, Acharia said it was 'surprising' that Leader of Opposition L K Advani, who initiated the discussion, referred to the Doda killings as
an 'act of cleansing' of one community in the state.
"So many people from different communities have fallen prey to terrorist bullets in a large number of incidents. But the BJP has no word on them. Their prime motive is to divide the country," he said.
Maintaining that BJP was losing ground all over the country, the CPI(M) leader said the BJP had lost in the recent assembly polls in four states, while Advani had to stop his
rathyatra midway as he got no response from the people.
Acharia said several important issues including wheat imports and rise in prices of essential commodities and cement, still remain to be debated in Parliament, with only a week remaining for the session to end.
