Medical services affected in Goa; doc's join strike Wednesday, May 17 2006 11:18 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Panaji:
Medical services at the Goa Medical College and Hospital were partially affected today (May 17, 2006) as resident doctors struck work to extend solidarity to agitating students in condemning police 'brutality' on protesting doctors in Mumbai.
A total of 180 resident doctors, 100 interns and 300 medical students of Goa Medical College have joined the strike, said Paresh Dessai, Public Relations Officer of Goa
Association of Resident Doctors.
"This is a 24-hour token strike to protest police excesses against doctors in Mumbai", he added.
Dessai said the agitation against reservation issue would be chalked out later in consultation with Indian Medical Association and All India Resident Doctors' Association.
As part of the strike, agitators today took out a rally here and would hold a sit-in at the GMC premises later in the day.
