Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today (May 29, 2006) asked politicians and bureaucrats to give due consideration to the interests of farmers while taking all important decisions.
Addressing a function to mark the death anniversary of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh here, Yadav reiterated that the country's development was not possible
without the uplift of farmers and villages.
"Without the development of farmers, the growth and progress of the country and state is not possible," Yadav said, exhorting those in involved in decision-making to keep
their interests in mind while making important decisions.
Recalling Charan Singh's contributions to development, Yadav said he had always strived for the welfare of farmers by working for them honestly and with dedication.
"Charan Singh used to say that without the welfare of farmers and villages, the country and society will never be able to flourish," Yadav said.
He said there was an urgent need to make more efforts to provide affordable education and medical facilities at the rural level.
