CII is non-committal on spectrum allotment issue
Tuesday, May 30 2006 10:41 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: The powerful telecom sector appears to have chosen apex industry association CII as the platform on which to settle differences over the controversial spectrum issue, but the industry chamber wants to stay out of the cross fire.

A day after some officials of the National Telecom Committee said that CII would support the government policy on spectrum allocation based on the subscribers' base, the Chamber formally distanced itself from the issue which has created a sharp divided among the telecom players.

"An official CII spokesperson has reiterated that the CII has not made any comment on the matter of spectrum allocation," CII said in a statement.

When contacted officials in the chamber indicated that CII would not take a position on the issue and that it may not make any recommendation on spectrum an issue which has seen Tatas pitted against all GSM operators including Bharti, Hutch and Idea.
