Youth Congress speaks out in favour of OBC quota Wednesday, May 31 2006 10:24 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Faizabad:
Coming out in support of the proposed reservation policy, National President of the Youth Congress Wing Ashok Tanwar yesterday (May 30, 2006) said the protests against the 27 per OBC quota were meaningless after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh promised to hike general category seats.
Holding the non-Congress parties, responsible for dividing society on caste and communal lines to serve petty political interests, Tanwar said the youth Congress workers were planning to launch a country-wide awareness campaign in this regard.
"In the wake of the comming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh all youth workers have been directed to make efforts to strengthen secularism and equality in society by countering casteism and regionalism practised by the non-Congress political parties for their petty political interests", Tanwar told reporters.
The youth wing of the party will focus on strengthening the party from block to district level, he said adding that the workers have been asked to look into the welfare of the rural masses.
