Jessica case: HC orders criminal trial against doctor Wednesday, May 31 2006 14:12 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The Delhi High Court today (May 31, 2006) directed the police to initiate criminal proceedings against Dr J S Bedi, who allegedly issued several false medical
certificates in favour of Vikas Gill, one of the absconding accused in the Jessica Lall murder case.
A Division Bench of Justice R S Sodhi and Justice P K Bhasin also issued notices to the accused on an application moved by the prosecution seeking a fresh ballistics
examination of the empty cartridges recovered from the scene of offence.
Appearing for the Delhi police, state counsel Mukta Gupta urged the court to grant permission for referring to a board of forensic experts the empty catridges for a 'fair and just opinion'.
She pointed out that the trial judge had acquitted the accused on the ground that the two cartridges recovered from the site originated from two different weapons.
