Assam: ULFA regrets non-resumption of peace talks Friday, June 2 2006 16:40 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Guwahati:
Unhappy with the Centre's 'apathy' towards the talks process with it, the outlawed ULFA has decided to continue its struggle and peace parleys simultaneously.
In the latest edition of its mouthpiece Swadhinata e-mailed to the local media, the ULFA regretted that resumption of the negotiations between the Centre and ULFA, put on hold since February seven, had remained confined to newspaper headlines only.
"The ULFA has decided that the continuation of its 'struggle' and the peace parleys to be the only way out in view of the ongoing atrocity and exploitation. New Delhi is
busy with other business and Dispur has brushed aside its responsibility by putting the ball in the Centre's court," it said.
In the interest of a peaceful solution to the problem, the editorial said, ULFA had not opposed the recent assembly elections.
Despite the new state government being installed, Swadhinata alleged, no date had been fixed for the next round of talks between the Centre and the ULFA-nominated People's
Consultative Group.
The ULFA accused the government of 'delaying' the release of its incarcerated central committee members and in informing it about the whereabouts of 14 leaders missing since the Bhutan government launched a military operation in December 2003 against militants who had set up camps in the kingdom.
