Sonia should decide on DMK-Cong coalition in TN Monday, June 5 2006 13:12 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
AICC president Sonia Gandhi will decide whether her party would share power with the DMK in Tamil Nadu, TNCC President M Krishnaswamy said today (June 5,2006) .
"All such views that have appeared in newspapers and posters across the state, had been brought to the notice of the party high command. It is for the AICC chief to decide,"
he told reporters here.
The issue has led to a debate among a section of the party and posters have appeared across the state demanding a share in power. DMK has formed the government with outside support of Congress, PMK and Left parties, who are partners of the
Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA).
Asked whether TNCC demanded share in power, he said "All such views have been informed" to the party high command.
Krishnaswamy demanded a probe into alleged irregularities in the distribution of Central assistance of Rs 6,000 crore for tsunami relief and Rs 1,000 crore for flood relief by the
previous AIADMK Government.
The Congress had been receiving numerous complaints about relief distribution, he alleged.
Replying to a question, he said the Karunanidhi Government was ensuring maintenance of law and order in the state.
On the local body polls, due in October next, he said his party would continue to be in the DMK-led DPA.
