India's software exports clocks 36.4 pc growth
Tuesday, June 6 2006 11:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Dubai: India's software and IT enabled services exports have gone up by 36.4 per cent to US$ 23,492 million during 2005-06 whereas its electronic hardware exports has grown by 10.3 per cent to US$ 1965 million as against previous year, a government official has said.

"Exports of computer software and IT enabled services have grown in the country, said said Kamal Vachani, Regional Director for the UAE and the Middle East of Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council, an autonomous organisation under India's Communications and Information Technology Ministry.

Vachani says the policies of the government contributed to the growth and had also enabled low cost computer networking and investments in human capital through institutions such as the IITs.

India's competency in IT sector, especially in software and IT enabled services has helped it to gain global recognition, Vachani said.

Giving an account for the sector's growth plans in the Middle East, Vachani said, the industry was planning to tap the market potential in Dubai and hoped the efforts being taken by the Council would fetch investments for it from the UAE.

"Indian made colour TVs and wall clocks are in great demand in the Middle East, UAE in particular. We have been sponsoring visits of delegates and organising meets. Dubai UAE is the target destination of India's IT industry," he added.
