AIADMK to hold demos on Jun 12 on petrol price hike Wednesday, June 7 2006 11:26 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
In a bid to express its protest over the petrol-diesel price hike effected by the Centre, AIADMK today (June 7,2006) said it proposed to hold demonstrations against the hike in all the district headquarters of Tamil Nadu on June 12.
In a statement here, AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa said demonstrations would also be held in Pondicherry, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and New Delhi on the same date.
Condemning the hike effected for the sixth time since June 2004, Jayalalithaa said MDMK and Dalit Panthers of India workers would also be joining the demonstrations.
She said a hike in the prices of petrol and diesel would have a cascading effect on the prices of other commodities and would affect poor people.
She also criticised UPA constituents like DMK, PMK, CPI and CPI-M for 'remaining silent' on the issue.
