CPM's central committee meeting begins on June 8
Wednesday, June 7 2006 16:57 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Hyderabad: The three-day Central Committee meeting of CPM is beginning here tomorrow (June 8, 2006) in the backdrop of growing dissent over the economic and foreign policies of UPA Government, more so with the steep hike in petrol prices.

"We will discuss national and international issues threadbare and adopt resolutions which suits our partyline," state committee member of the party told sources here today.

The meeting comes close on the heels of hike in petrol prices prompting Opposition parties to launch protests and dharnas (sit-in) across the nation and detractors questioning the logic of CPM's outside support to UPA.

Besides rise in prices of essential commodities, the political and economic situation would also be discussed in the three day meet which would be attended by the cream of Marxists party headed by General Secretary Prakash Karat.

India's foreign policy with regard to Iran is likely to occupy enough space in the international deliberations with the party favouring an independent foreign policy without the intervention of others (America).
