New Delhi: The Election Commission has fixed a hearing on June 16 on the petition seeking the disqualification of Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh from the Rajya Sabha on the ground that he held an office of profit.

The EC had earlier issued a notice to Singh for his reply to the petition. The Samajwadi Party leader had sought extension of time on two occasions which was given, EC sources said.

Singh may appear or send his counsel on June 16, they said.

The EC had acted on a reference from the President on a complaint seeking Singh's disqualification on the ground that as Chairperson of Uttar Pradesh Development Council, he held an office of profit and attracted disqualification.
