The US embassy in China yesterday (June 9, 2006) issued a warning advising American citizens in the country to be on alert against a possible terror attack on US interests here.
"The US government has received unconfirmed information of a possible terrorist threat against US interests in China, especially in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou," the embassy said on its website.
"American citizens in China are advised to be aware of their surroundings and remain alert to possible threats," it said.
"The threat could also exist in places frequented by Americans such as clubs, restaurants, places of worship, schools or outdoor recreation events," it added.
US citizens planning to visit China were also asked to consult the State Department for country-specific public announcements and travel warnings.
