KPCC to launch state-wide agitation on June 14
Monday, June 12 2006 12:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kottayam: The Congress party will launch an agitaion on June 14 in Kerala, demanding immediate measures for a cut in sales tax on petrol and diesel, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala has said.

Speaking at a meeting of the District Congress Committee to review the results of the assembly elections here yesterday, he said KPCC office-bearers and MLAs would hold a fast in front of the martyr's column at Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday against the 'indifferent' attitude of the LDF government in tackling the fuel price hike. Similar demonstrations would be held at the district headquarters also on that day.

He said the government would not lose any income by reducing the tax.

"It would only have to forego additional income by way of tax following the hike in the prices. Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra had decided not to impose any hike," he added.
