Cong for CBI probe into Gowda family land holdings Tuesday, June 13 2006 17:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
The Karnataka unit of the Congress today(June 13,2006) demanded that the JDS-BJP Coalition Government order a CBI probe into the extent of lands held by former
Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and his family members in the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) region.
"Since the Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has filed a wrong affidavit before the Election Commission on land owned by him and his father JDS supremo, Deve Gowda, denying any property in his or his family members name, let there be a CBI
probe to bring out the truth," Opposition Congress leader N Dharam Singh and KPCC president M Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters here.
Former Chief Minister Dharam Singh, who accused Deve Gowda of creating bottlenecks in all development works in the state including the BMIC project, sought to remind Gowda on his earlier statement that he would slit his throat if anyone proved that whether he or any one of his family members owned land around the BMIC project.
"Kumaraswamy himself has admitted that he owns land near Ramanagaram," he pointed out.
Singh and Kharge also demanded that the BMIC project's affairs be also subjected to CBI probe so that people will come to know which party supported and started
this 'controversial project.'
The MoU for the project was signed by Deve Gowda in 1995 when he was the Chief Minister and framework agreement was inked during the J H Patel government's tenure.
