Amarnath yatra suspended for two days from Jammu Saturday, June 17 2006 13:11 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Jammu:
The annual Amarnath pilgrimage was suspended again today as Pahalgam and Baltal routes leading to the Himalayan cave shrine remained unfit for travel due to incessant rains lashing the region.
"The yatra has been suspended for today and tomorrow from here due to inclement weather prevailing along Pahalgam and Baltal routes," police sources said.
Yesterday a batch of 1498 pilgrims had left from the base camp of MAM stadium here. Over 3800 pilgrims had left from Jammu so far to the shrine since the begnning of the
annual pilgrimage on June 10.
Earlier, the yatra was suspended from here for four consecutive days from June 11 to 14.
Some pilgrims, who had arrived from different parts of the country, have been stationed in Kathua and enroute to Jammu, the sources said adding that the authorities have made
adequate arrangements for lodging and boarding of pilgrims scheduled to arrive here in the next two days.
