Kerala rules out slash in sales tax on diesel
Monday, June 19 2006 14:42 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief MinisterV S Achuthanandan reiterated the LDF Government decision not to waive the sales tax on the increased price of petrol and diesel as done by few Congress ruled states.

Replying to a calling attention notice on the problems faced by the transport sector and rise in price of essential commodities due to frequent increase of fuel price, Achuthanandan wanted the Centre to withdraw the price hike.

Asking for waiving the sales tax on increased price was an attempt of the Centre to divert the attention of the people from the real issue, Achuthanandan said to the notice moved by P Jayarajan (CPI-M).

Achuthanandan admitted that price hike had badly affected the commonman and resulted in increase in prices of other commodities.
