Sri Lanka: Gen. Parami assassinated in a bomb blast

Colombo: A Sri Lankan army general was today (June 26,2006) assassinated in a powerful bomb attack outside the capital Colombo.

Major General Parami Kulatunga was driving along a highway when the bomb set up on a cycle exploded at Pannipitiya, a suburb of Colombo, during the morning rush hour.



Kulatunga's car took the full impact of the blast, police said.

Passengers in some nearby vehicles were also injured in the attack.
