Islamabad: Making a U-turn, Secretary of Pakistan's Minority Welfare Council, who had approached the Lahore High Court complaining about the demolition of the Krishna Temple, has withdrawn his petition saying the place of worship was 'intact' and there had been 'misunderstanding'.

Om Prakash Narayan, Secretary General of Pakistan Minorities Welfare Council, said that he withdrew the petition after he was told by locals that no temple existed in the place where a commercial building was being constructed and it was a misunderstanding.

"After visiting the place and being told by the locals that there was no temple where the plaza was being constructed, I decided to file an application in the court to withdraw my petition against the federal secretary of Religious Affairs and Evacuee Property Trust Board (ETPB) chairman," he was quoted as saying by Daily Times today.

He termed reports about the demolition of Krishna Temple and construction of a commercial plaza as a 'conspiracy'.

Narayan also alleged that BJP leaders tried to disrupt the Indo-Pakistan peace process through the Krishna Temple controversy.

Narayan said BJP did not have the right to issue any statements against Pakistan's treatment of its minorities.

On June 16, Nayaran filed a writ petition in Lahore High Court complaining about the demolition of the temple following which the court had issued stay orders stalling the construction of the building.
