Centre failed to control inflation: Rajnath Singh Saturday, July 1 2006 11:13 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Indore:
Coming down heavily on Congress-led UPA Government for its alleged failure to control inflation, BJP president Rajnath Singh yesterday (June 30, 2006) predicted a mid-term Parliament election with the fall of the coalition government at the Centre.
"The fall of the UPA Government is nearing as it failed to contain the rising inflation and there is a possibility of mid-term polls in the country," Singh told reporters at
the airport enroute to Ujjain to attend the wedding function of the son of a BJP minister, Kamal Patel.
The issue of inflation will be the first issue to be raised by the BJP vociferously during the monsoon session on Parliament, he said adding the government had lost all its
control over the economy.
Singh slammed the Congress party for organising a drama on the issue of inflation by convening the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting and alleged that they are trying to 'cheat' the people of the country.
"Everybody knew that after the rise in the prices of petrol and diesel, infaltion will rise but the government instead of reducing taxes on the petroleum products is trying
to fool the people by organising CWC meeting," he said.
He also demanded that the Union Finance Minister disclose to the people about his assertion that fluctuations in the stock market were doctored and not natural.
Criticising the left parties for supporting the government covertly on the issue of petroleum prices, Singh alleged that the left should withdraw their support to the government if they are against the hike in the prices of the petroleum products and oppose it openly.
The BJP President also criticised the UPA government for their failure to combat growing terrorism and naxalism in the country.
"The government should make it clear to the Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf that as long as they abet terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, India will not hold any peace
talks with them," he said.
The government has no firm policy to deal with the menace of terrorism and naxalism, he alleged.
The BJP president also criticised the government for not having a full-fledged external affairs minister in the country after the exit of Natwar Singh and alleged that they were
depending on their left allies for dealing with the situation in neighbouring Nepal and Sri Lanka.
