Monday, July 3 2006 11:02 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

London: Former Paksitan Prime Ministers Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif today held talks with leaders of the 16-party Oppostion grouping here to ratify the Charter of Democracy (COD).

The meeting of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) was jointly presided over by Bhutto, the chairperson of Pakistan Peoples' Party and Sharif, the chief of Pakistan Muslim League, sources close to the two leaders said.

The parties of Bhutto and Sharif have already finalised the Charter of Democracy to work for the removal of military from politics.

Besides the COD, the leaders are understood to have discussed the strategy of the non-Islamic parties if Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf goes ahead with his plans to get re-elected by the National and Provincial assemblies before they are dissolved.

The Charter of Democracy (CoD) has already been endorsed by the member parties at a meeting in Islamabad.
