Mumbai:
Heavy rains continued to lash the city and the suburbs for the fifth consecutive day today (July 5, 2006), while the weather office has predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall with gusty winds during the day.
Fishermen have been warned not to venture into a very rough sea and a local caution signal LC-3 Flag has been hoisted along the Maharashtra-Goa coast, weather bureau said.
Suburban train services on the Western, Central (main) and Harbour lines are running 15 to 20 minutes behind schedule while four long distance trains were cancelled and three
rescheduled. All the other morning trains have left for their destinations, railway sources said.
"Three long distance trains which had been rescheduled for today were Geetanjali Express, leaving at 11 am, Shatabhdi Express at 11.15 am and Ferozpur Express at 12 noon," the sources said.
The four trains that were cancelled were Bhusaval Passenger, Tapovan Express, Deccan Express and Koyna passenger.
Meanwhile all incoming long-distance trains are running one to three hours late.
Road traffic returned to almost normal with water receding from many roads, traffic police control said.
Air traffic was normal today and there was no flooding on the runway, airport authorities
Rainfall recorded for the last 24 hours till 8.30 am at Colaba observatory in south Mumbai was 213.3 mm while at the Santa Cruz observatory it was 231.0 mm, the Met office said.
Humidity level at Colaba has been recorded as 90 per centwhile at Santa cruz it is 100 per cent.
Most of the schools in the city remained closed for the third consecutive day today, the state authorities said.
