Karachi on high alert after Mumbai serial blasts

Islamabad: The Pakistani port city of Karachi was put on high alert Wednesday after a series of bomb blasts in India's financial capital Mumbai.

The police all over Karachi have been ordered to remain alert, said Deputy Inspector General for Operations Mushtaq Shah, according to a private television report.

An extra force of 400 personnel has been deployed in sensitive consulates and buildings, the report said.

A series of bomb explosion took place in quick succession at or near railway stations on the Western Railway network of Mumbai, killing over 150 and injuring hundreds. Pakistan has condemned the blasts as an act of terror.
