A top militant of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Abu Osama killed in Jammu & Kashmir.
Jammu: A top militant of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was killed in an encounter in Doda district hours after the Jammu and Kashmir police went on an all-out search for those suspected to be behind the terror attacks in state capital Srinagar Tuesday.
Working on specific information, the police succeeded in tracing LeT militant Abu Osama, a Pakistani national, at Dherjala in Doda, about 200 km northeast of Jammu.
According to a senior police official, a fierce encounter ensued late Tuesday in which the LeT militant was killed. The police have doubled their intelligence and field sources, the official said on the condition of anonymity.
"Each and every wing of the state police has been activated," he said.
The success came after a series of terror attacks rocked Srinagar and subsequently India's financial capital Mumbai Tuesday, killing about 180 people.
The official added that the hunt was not limited to those responsible for the Srinagar attacks but also for terrorist groups operating in the state.
