Basu says no law and order in Maharashtra & Kashmir
Friday, July 14 2006 17:23 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kolkata: The serial bomb blasts in Mumbai and attacks on tourists in Srinagar showed that there was no law and order in Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra, veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu said today (July 14, 2006).

"There is no law and order there. It was also an absolute intelligence failure," Basu said when asked whether he thought intelligence failure was responsible for the blasts and attacks.

He was speaking to newspersons after a CPI(M) state secretariat attended by the Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and senior party leaders including the state's Left Front Chairman Biman Bose.

A series of coordinated bomb blasts on Mumbai's suburban rail network on Tuesday killed 200 people and left 714 injured.

A string of grenade attacks killed eight persons including six tourists from West Bengal in Srinagar on July 11.
