Friday, July 14 2006 18:53 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today (July 14, 2006) was moved by the plight of the terror attack victims being treated at two hospitals here.

The prime minister arrived in the city Friday afternoon and drove straight from the airport to the Sion Hospital amid tight security, followed by the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital, both in central Mumbai.

"The Prime Minister visited various wards at both hospitals and spoke with the injured about their condition and treatment," a hospital official said.

"He was moved by the plight of the injured. He wanted to know the details of the medical aid being given to the victims and instructed us that nothing should be left to chance in their treatment," the official added.

Prime Minister Singh was accompanied by Maharashtra Governor S.M. Krishna, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and state government officials.

"He will hold discussions with senior Maharashtra officials at the Mumbai airport later Friday to take stock of the situation," a senior state government official said.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to address the media before returning for New Delhi later Friday.

The seven bomb blasts along the city's busy commuter train network Tuesday evening has killed at least 200 people and injured over 740.
