The Centre today (July 20, 2006) summoned Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh to review the situation arising out of the sudden increase in naxal violence in the state.
Singh will meet Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil here tomorrow and brief him about the latest situation and the measures taken by his government to deal with the menace,
Union Home Ministry sources said.
The Home Ministry has also convened a meeting of top officials of the Chhattisgarh government tomorrow to review the strategy to counter naxalism in the state.
The meeting, to be chaired by Union Home Secretary V K Duggal, is expected to focus on the Centre's overall strategy to deal with the problem.
The two meetings assume significance in the wake of the recent massacre of over 30 tribals in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.
The meeting convened by the Home Secretary would be attended by Chhattisgarh Director General of Police O P Rathore and CRPF chief J K Sinha, Home Ministry sources said.
With over 200 casualties reported from Chhattisgarh so far this year, the state accounts for over 65 per cent deaths due to Maoist attacks in the country.
