Government wants direct communication from ULFA Thursday, July 20 2006 10:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
After three rounds of talks with the ULFA-nominated Peoples' Consultative Group (PCG), the Centre is understood to have made it clear that the banned outfit must communicate to the government directly expressing its desire to sit for dialogue to carry forward the ongoing peace process.
Union Home Secretary V K Duggal believed to have told PCG member and key negotiator for the ULFA talks Indira Goswami today that the outfit must communicate their demands, including the release of five jailed leaders, "black and white" directly to the Centre to carry forward the peace process further, sources said.
ULFA must make direct contact with the Government and place their demands instead of communicating through intermediaries, Duggal is understood to have told Goswami.
The Assamese writer also had urged the ULFA leadership last week to contact the government directly to facilitate direct talks between them and the Government.
